Novice market participants must always conduct time-consuming research and resort to investing in popular or well-marketed investment instruments. However, they do so without having proper understanding of their nature and peculiarities of the instruments they are being offered. At OLTO, we have created trading baskets to eliminate the recurring pains of choosing and trading particular instruments.

The current methodology applied in the P/L is the following – the sum of all losing trades is deducted from the sum of all profitable trades with the final value expressed in percentage terms. All trades are concluded within 1 lot of each instrument and do not include trading fees and/or rollover commissions.

There are 3 trades in each basket. For example, buy Long BTC with 10% profit, Short sell BCH with 7% loss and Buy Long ETH with 15% profit. The total profit for the basket is estimated to be 10%-7%+15%=18%.

The cryptocurrency portfolio includes the following digital currencies – BTC, ETH, BCH, ADA, and XRP.

The chart shows that the cryptocurrency market has been exhibiting explosive growth since the start of the ICO era in early 2017, followed by a lull lasting until the first half of 2020, which was then followed by another sharp increase spurred by the appreciation of Bitcoin and the launch of the DeFi and NFT markets. Overall crypto market capitalization is seen to have risen by over 25,000 percentage points over a period from 2015 to 2021.

The overall leader in terms of market performance is ETH in percentage terms, followed by BTC, both of which have exhibited sharp appreciation in the value-doubling ranges.

In summary, it is possible to conclude that the cryptocurrency portfolio is the best performer, showing tremendous growth over the allocated period, doubling in value over a fraction of it. The next best performer is the commodities basket, which is considered to be a stable investment option.
